Manchester City and Manchester United Battle for Star Player with Pink Hair
Manchester City is set to engage in a summer transfer battle with Manchester United for the signature of Serie A star Theo Hernandez, who is anticipated to depart AC Milan when the current season concludes.
As reported by EsDiario, City has entered the race for the prolific left-back, widely regarded as one of the finest in his position globally over recent years. The club aims to bolster its squad with a new left-back in the upcoming summer transfer window, particularly after being compelled to field players in unfamiliar roles in that position throughout this season.
Manchester United, long-time admirers of Hernandez, may face stiff competition from their city rivals for the talented Frenchman’s services. Despite his status as one of the notable names in Serie A, Hernandez is increasingly likely to part ways with the Rossoneri at the end of the season.
Earlier this year, Milan was reportedly open to selling Hernandez and even accepted an unexpected €47 million offer from Como, which the player declined.
This season has proven challenging for the 25-year-old, who has encountered difficulties both on and off the pitch. His relationship with former coach Paulo Fonseca soured, leading to criticism from fans who have expressed their frustrations, even booing him during games.
Currently, Hernandez's contract runs until 2026, but talks regarding an extension have stalled. Recent events hit a new low when he was heavily criticized for his role in Milan's Champions League exit. Leading Feyenoord 1-0 at home, he received a second yellow card for simulation, leading to his dismissal. Feyenoord capitalized on the situation, equalizing and advancing 2-1 on aggregate.
Following this incident, Italian media suggested that Milan intends to place Hernandez on the transfer list this summer, citing concerns about his professionalism and commitment. His unconventional choice to dye his hair pink has also drawn scrutiny, with many interpreting it as a lack of seriousness.
Theo Hernandez joined AC Milan in the summer of 2019 from Real Madrid for around €20 million, a deal orchestrated by the legendary Paolo Maldini, who played a crucial role as a director at the club. Since then, he has emerged as one of Europe's premier left-backs, amassing over 200 appearances and netting 33 goals for the club.
He was instrumental in AC Milan's Scudetto triumph in 2022 and has gained recognition for his dynamic playing style, particularly his ability to race down the left flank with finesse. Over the years, he has earned a place in the Serie A Team of the Season four times.
On the international stage, Theo has represented France 36 times, contributing two goals, including one during the 2022 World Cup semi-final against Morocco. His next destination remains uncertain, but interest from both Manchester clubs indicates that he could soon embark on a new chapter in his career.
