Chelsea's recent 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the Premier League marked a disappointing end to their four-match winning streak across all competitions.

According to a report by Chelsea Chronicle, the defeat was compounded by early frustration within the team, notably from Enzo Maresca’s substitutions and tactical decisions that drew criticism from fans.

The game revealed ongoing struggles in attack, despite a promising start and an impressive debut from Alejandro Garnacho.

The match began positively for Chelsea, with Garnacho opening the scoring just four minutes in, showcasing his potential after waiting patiently for opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

However, his early substitution being replaced by Estevao Willian displeased the Argentine, who was visibly frustrated when his number was called early in the second half.

Chelsea’s attacking efforts faltered afterward, as they failed to create clear chances to regain the lead. Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu, making his first Premier League start of the season, faced criticism for their performances, highlighting the team's attacking inconsistency.

Chelsea invested heavily this summer in new winger talent, including Garnacho, Estevao, and Jamie Gittens, yet progress has been slow.

Gittens, who delivered a Player of the Match performance against Ajax, is eager for more opportunities, while fans are eager to see more of Estevao.

However, Maresca remains cautious, choosing to protect young players from overexposure at this stage of their development.

The game was marred by tactical missteps, especially following Josh Acheampong’s departure and a lack of clarity in defensive organization during Sunderland's decisive late counterattack. Fans expressed their discontent with Maresca’s substitutions, feeling that the tactical choices contributed to the team's inability to secure at least a point.

Overall, Chelsea’s defeat underscores the need for continued adaptation and patience as their new signings settle in, while also highlighting the importance of tactical discipline and attacking creativity moving forward.
